A-Level Maths assumes GCSE algebra is instant. For most students it is not, and the first term of Year 12 is where the gap shows. One-to-one lessons close it before it becomes a grade.
Year 12 pure maths is the foundation for everything in Year 13. Differentiation, integration, trigonometry in radians, logarithms: if these are fluent by June, Year 13 is manageable. If not, it is a scramble.

What Year 12 covers
- Algebra and functions: indices, surds, quadratics, inequalities, polynomials
- Coordinate geometry, circles and the binomial expansion
- Trigonometry, radians and identities
- Exponentials and logarithms
- Differentiation and integration from first principles
- Mechanics: kinematics, forces, Newton’s laws; statistics: sampling, probability, hypothesis testing
How the first lessons go

- 2Make the foundations automatic, then work through pure, mechanics and statistics in step with school.
- 3Exam-style questions under time, marked against the board’s mark scheme, and a grade estimate each half term.
How Year 12 is assessed
The full A-Level is examined at the end of Year 13 with three two-hour papers. Some schools sit AS papers at the end of Year 12; nearly all set internal exams that decide whether a student continues to Year 13 and shape predicted grades for university.

Which boards do you teach at A-Level?
AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR MEI. The content is common; the paper structure and question style differ, so we use the papers from your school’s board.

How much independent work is expected?
A-Level rewards practice. We set targeted questions each week and mark them; expect 30 to 45 minutes between lessons.
