Who teaches your child, and how we choose them.

We recruit qualified teachers, not students. This is what we look for, what we check before we match a teacher with a family, and what you can do yourself.

Real teachers who know the exam.

  • A teaching qualificationUsually Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), the qualification state schools in England ask their teachers to hold, or teacher training (a PGCE) with QTS on its way.
  • Classroom experienceExperience teaching their subject in a UK school, so they know the specification and the exam.
  • Time they can keepAt least two hours a week they can keep for the school year, so your child keeps the same teacher.

What we check

Our process for every teacher before their first lesson with a family.

  1. Their teaching qualificationsWe check the qualifications they tell us they hold.
  2. A thorough interviewA detailed interview on how they teach, how they explain, how they plan and the students they would suit.
  3. Two referencesWe take up two references before we match them with a family.
  4. Right to work in the UKChecked before their first lesson.
  5. A DBS checkThe criminal-record check for working with children. We check an existing enhanced DBS on the DBS Update Service, or arrange a new one.

Check for yourself.

Safeguarding

Keeping lessons safe.

Worried about anything? Email info@thetutorsroom.com and tell us what happened. If you think a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

  • Lessons are one-to-one and online, on video with a shared whiteboard, so your child learns at home.
  • A parent or guardian makes the booking, pays, and can sit in on any lesson.
  • Lessons are recorded so your child can watch them back. Recordings are shared only with your family and deleted when the booking ends.
  • We take your child’s details from you, never from your child through the website.
